Last Friday, my sons and I drove 10 hours straight to spend the week vacationing in New Hampshire. Yesterday, we drove another hour and a half to go to the American Classic Arcade Museum. We have been before, and found out that at 13 cents a token, you can play Tron, Punch-Out, Pac-man, Kick-man, Jungle Hunt, Crazy Climber, Track-n-Field, and about 300 more classic games nearly all day for about 7 bucks. Our favorite, however, is Tempest which meant that about one hour of the hour and a half drive was spent bragging about who was going to get the highest Tempest score and blast the other out of the universe. Alas, after spending our $20 for 150 tokens, we headed straight for the northwest corner on the 3rd floor only to find a tiny sticker on the center of the screen that read "Out of Order." Of course, we spend the next 10 minutes checking the plug in the back, hoping that the dude fixing pinball machines further down might work his magic on the Tempest cabinet, and generally looking like sad little puppies. Eventually we moved on and had some epic high scores on Arkanoid and Crazy Kong, but when we got back, I had to find this online version. It isn't the same without the dial, but it still brings a smile to our faces.
